Here’s Where Arizona Ranks For Most Expensive Groceries In The U.S.

With food prices up nearly 30% since 2019, many American households are struggling to keep up with grocery costs. But grocery prices vary depending on where you live. So, which states have the most expensive groceries in the U.S.?

A new study found that shoppers in Arizona pay 4.42% more than the national average for their groceries, ranking the Grand Canyon State No. 4 for most expensive groceries.

This comes from CashNetUSA, who analyzed Walmart prices of a basket of typical groceries and vegan groceries across each state’s most populous city: https://www.cashnetusa.com/blog/cheapest-groceries-by-state/

They then compared each state’s total cost with the national average to determine where in the U.S. consumers are paying the most and least for groceries.

Here’s a look at the states with the highest and lowest prices for regular Walmart groceries:

In the battle for America’s grocery dollars, Walmart spent 2024 trying to recruit the nation’s big spenders as well as its careful budget-watchers.

“Prices are lower than a year ago in places like eggs, apples, and deli snacks, but higher in other places like asparagus and blackberries,” said Walmart President and CEO C. Douglas McMillon in a February earnings call before announcing 7,000 further price “roll-backs” in the spring. “We took our French bread back to $1 which had been $1 for a long time and went up as inflation hit the market,” Walmart U.S. CEO John R. Furner added. “Rotisserie chicken is another one. That price has come down by $1.” – more at azbigmedia.com
